On Saturday, November 22, we held a Thanksgiving turkey dinner event at Sae Presbyterian Church with AW’s single-mother families (both current and former beneficiary families).
On this day, the LA Central Lions Club awarded $1,000 scholarships to the high school–aged children of 12 single-mother families, and provided $200 Galleria Market gift cards to the remaining families. In addition, the Women’s Missionary Society of Torrance True Love Church presented $200 in cash to each single-mother family that participated in the event.
A total of 29 single-mother families participated, and more than 100 people—including Lions Club members, members of the Women’s Missionary Society of True Love Church, and AW members—enjoyed a turkey dinner personally prepared by AW members.
The event was hosted by AW Director Hyun-Sook Joo. It began with praise led by a worship minister, followed by a sermon delivered by Pastor Do-Il Kim of World Lighthouse Church. After a welcome address by Chairwoman Soo-In Lee, a scholarship presentation ceremony by the Lions Club took place.
Bouquets of appreciation were presented to six AW members who had served as mentors for more than two years, as well as to the worship minister who served through praise. The event concluded with words of thanks from AW President Kyung-Mi Lee, followed by everyone singing “Give Thanks” together and sharing the turkey dinner.
